Description
#VukaValley is about creating a skills-sharing rural Community Centre, an off-grid base to aid in creating food-, energy- and water-security as well as shelter solutions & small business opportunities.
It is a sustainability model based on recycle of locally available natural resources and skills sharing through mentorship, to promote ‘self-built’ solutions, designed around the use of shipping containers incorporated into an energy efficient, spatially economical working- and living environment, with in-house processing around agro-ecology, eco-tourism, alternative technology, and environmentally responsible living.
We have already collected a large amount of recycled building materials, tools and equipment, sundry facilities and componentry, all of which are stored in 2 shipping containers and 2 garage-sized storage units, just waiting for the opportunity to start building the first Vuka Valley Centre.
Our pilot food garden project can be seen at ‘T&T by the Sea’ in Port Edward, where we are currently residing.
We have also begun development of a foodscaping demo- and educational workshop site on a small agricultural piece of land belonging to a school in Banners Rest, Port Edward, KZN.
Over the years, Matt Kroll, Founder of Vuka Valley, has developed his skills, knowledge and practical experience in multiple disciplines e.g. solar power, natural building, bio-diesel, waterless sanitation, wood gas technology, solar convection cooling, waterworks, food gardening, metal- and woodwork, concrete, automotive, electrical, kiln-building, ferro-cement sculpting, mechanical, machinery, construction, technical drawing and 3D design, renovation and home improvement and more, as you will see on his websites.
