Bendigo Nature Reserve
Location:  Hazel Rd, Bendigo, KZN, South Africa

Small coastal forest reserve in Southport, Port Shepstone, KwaZulu – Natal.

Covers approximately 4 hectares, in a rectangular shape within a residential area .

Established in 2005 as a Site of Conservation Significance under Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife .

Biodiversity Highlights

Flora:

Around 75 species of trees (many protected/indigenous, some endemic), including several 100-year-old specimens.

50 species of herbaceous/non-woody plants .

Fauna:

Amphibians: 9 frog species.

Reptiles: 10 snakes, 8 lizard species.

Mammals: 25 species.

Birdlife: ~70 species breed on-site, with 11 endemic to South Africa  .

Designation Botanical reserve; Conservation Site (since 2005)
