A smile has no language. It is the same for all. It doesn't matter who you are, what language you speak, or what part of the world you belong to.
Next time you’re out and about, you may want to give passers-by a smile, or a nod- just a simple acknowledgment of their existence, their humanity.
Are you guilty of staring straight through people as they pass you by? Many of us are.
The first step in coming together as a strengthened and united Hibiscus Coast community begins by noticing each other.
When a stranger makes eye contact with you, why not invite them to smile?
It’s simple
It’s impactful
And anyone can do it.
Scientifically, if we all smile a ‘lottle’ more, it can seriously have a positive effect in our community.
Dr. Isha Gupta a neurologist from IGEA Brain and Spine explains a smile spurs a chemical reaction in the brain, releasing certain hormones including dopamine and serotonin.
“Dopamine increases our feelings of happiness. Serotonin release is associated with reduced stress. Low levels of serotonin are associated with depression and aggression,” says Dr. Gupta. “Low levels of dopamine are also associated with depression.”
Researchers at the University of Kansas published findings that smiling helps reduce the body’s response to stress and lower heart rate in tense situations; another study linked smiling to lower blood pressure, while yet another suggests that smiling leads to longevity.
Let’s move away from the distracted cliquish culture and collectively foster a community of genuine compassion for one another and let’s see what happens. We only need a few people to begin the trend…
Be a reason for someone’s happiness today, by simply extending kindness with a simple smile.
After all, we are all in this together.
ARE YOU IN? 🙂
