Every December on the South Coast has its own personality. Some years it’s about the beaches. Some years it’s about the markets. This year? It’s about the burgers.
The locals on Hibiscus Coast Seconds(HCS) made sure of that. One HCS post turned into a full-blown list of “you haven’t lived until you’ve tried this” recommendations, and we decided to follow the appetite of the community.
So welcome to the Food & Fun Burger Spotlight, the holiday edition.
Consider it your warm-up round.
Your tasting tour.
Your unofficial burger treasure map for summer. Local PJ Da Ras, asked the HCS community which burgers are worth the drive, and you answered with passion. From Umtentweni to Shelly Beach, from Southport to Port Edward, your favourites rose to the top in the loudest, most delicious way.
Over the next few weeks our team will be visiting nominated spots. We’ll taste, shoot, test and feature the burgers that earned their place from real locals. Some are messy, some are neat, some come with ocean views, some come with roadside charm. But all of them made the same promise: “trust us, this one is worth it.”
But for now, start exploring.
Start bookmarking the places you’ve been meaning to try. Start following the locals’ list. This is a coast filled with characters and flavours, and these are the burgers the community says deserve your attention.
Here’s to holiday eating, local love, and the stories that only start with “you need to try the burger at…”
Have fun ,(and be super kind to the people you meet a long the way!)
